III.3 IDE and LSP

oxl lsp implements the Language Server Protocol; extensions for VS Code and JetBrains, a tree-sitter grammar.

• Highlighting aware of contextual keywords, completion, go to definition, find references, rename across the package boundaries of a workspace and rpc.
• Inlay hints: inferred types, the union of errors at each link of a chain, function effects, the place where a pipeline step runs.
• Markers at calls: "in-process", "over the network", "scatter-gather", the target role.
• Hover on rpc: callers, policies, schema version, attributes with final values (including constants).
• Quick fixes: handle all errors of a chain, extract a literal into a constant, add a policy, generate a mock, move a step to another role.

Implementation-defined. Form of the markers (D-8056; DIV-044). The LSP protocol does not fix the way of displaying them; this implementation delivers call markers as inlay hints, not as code lens.
